Town centre hotels in Bournemouth

Town centre means Bournemouth Square, the Lower Gardens and the pier entrance at the bottom of Bath Road. Everything is within a 12-minute walk. Best fit for short city breaks, BIC conference guests and groups who want restaurants and taxis on the doorstep rather than a sea view.

Local knowledge in 60 words.

The Lower Gardens run down the middle of town from the Square to the pier, so any hotel on Exeter Road or Bath Road puts you next to sand in under ten minutes. Ask for a room facing away from Old Christchurch Road: that stretch is the late-night circuit and stays loud until 03:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

Three town-centre picks.

  • Hilton Bournemouth. Terrace Road tower, indoor pool, direct escalator link to BIC. Sea-view rooms above the 8th floor face across the gardens. 8 minutes to the pier. Rate band £150 to £280.
  • Premier Inn Bournemouth Central (Westover Road). Reliable chain quality opposite the Pavilion. 5 minutes to the pier. Rate band £85 to £150.
  • Travelodge Bournemouth Central. Christchurch Road end, cheapest walkable option to the Square. 12 minutes to the pier. Rate band £55 to £110.

Practical tips.

  • Dog rule: main beach dogs banned 10:00-18:00 from 1 May to 30 September. Nearest dog-permitted sand is Boscombe East, a 25-minute walk.
  • Parking: BCP multi-storeys at Richmond Hill and Braidley Road are £16 to £22 per 24 hours. Hotel valet where offered runs £20 to £30.
  • Seasonal: Air Festival week (mid-August) triples town-centre rates and closes Undercliff Drive to traffic; book by March or avoid.
