Sandbanks hotels: 4 stays on the UK’s most expensive peninsula

Sandbanks is a 1.5-mile spit between Poole Harbour and the sea. The chain ferry at the end crosses to Studland in four minutes. Four Fjb Hotels group properties dominate the peninsula, all in walking range of the beach.

Local knowledge in 60 words.

Banks Road runs the full spine of the peninsula; north-side rooms look over Poole Harbour, south-side look at the beach. The beach is Blue-Flag rated and dog-friendly all year. Sandbanks Road (the approach from Poole) jams solid from 09:30 on August weekends, so drive in before 09:00 or after 18:00.

Three Sandbanks picks.

  • The Sandbanks Hotel. Fjb group flagship, direct beach access, family-focused with indoor pool and kids club in school holidays. 0 minutes to the sand. Rate band £220 to £450.
  • Harbour Heights. Above the chain-ferry road with harbour-view balconies; Fjb group, quieter than the Sandbanks Hotel. 5 minutes to the beach on foot. Rate band £180 to £360.
  • Haven Hotel. At the very tip beside the chain ferry, spa and sea-view rooms, older feel. 1 minute to the sand, 30 seconds to the ferry queue. Rate band £200 to £400.

Practical tips.

  • Dog rule: Sandbanks Beach permits dogs on-lead year-round; no 10:00-18:00 ban.
  • Parking: peninsula pay-and-display is £3 per hour, £24 daily cap; hotel guest parking free at all four Fjb properties.
  • Seasonal: chain ferry closes for annual maintenance a fortnight each January; check crossing status before booking Studland trips.
